Following a brief round of play, the children then turn to the empties: “Whatever do you think they’ll do with all those boxes? Well….” More-elaborate play ensues, as the cartons are combined, altered, and decorated to serve as a castle, a ship, a stage, a tall foldout rocket, an even larger gatefold train, and finally a cozy nest just right for a collective snooze. Thomas, Alice, Sam, and Nancy each have a carton that, with the lift of a flap-or in Nancy’s case, several nested flaps-reveals a toy or other surprise. ![]() ![]() Further evidence that, for young children at least, boxes are gifts that keep on giving. ![]() ![]() ![]() A copy of the book is not included in this set of resources. Why? Because 200 years ago, if you engaged in spousal abuse, for the most part, unless you left permanent damage to the abused spouse, you were not subject to criminal penalties. For example, a Texas three-judge federal panel in February struck down a law that prohibited people who were subject to domestic violence restraining orders from possessing guns and called that law unconstitutional. ![]() But all kinds of other laws have been struck down. They’ve been challenged in the past and have been upheld before the Bruen case came along. For example, about 10 states have assault weapons bans on the books, and those are being challenged. You said we’ve had a flood of rulings after that? I was going to ask you to follow up on something you talked about a little bit, which was the domino effect that this ruling has had on state gun laws.
